An injury to Scott Smith has sidelined him and Max Griffin has his third opponent in as many weeks.
Fernando Gonzalez out of Team Quest Temecula has stepped in and will face WFC Welterweight Champion Max "Pain" Griffin for the Interim Middleweight Title. Gonzalez, a WEC and Strikeforce veteran, is riding a three fight win streak and has amassed 20 victories in his mixed martial arts career.
He will face Griffin, who was last in action at WFC 5 where he won a Fight of the Night Unanimous Decision over Kito Andrews and regained the Welterweight Title he originally won at WFC 1.
The winner of the matchup between Griffin & Gonzalez will face Smith at WFC 8 on February 1st to Unify the titles.
