The Featherweight Title fight between Josh Berkovic and
Michael Christensen on West Coast Fighting Championship’s main card has been
cancelled. Christensen, who trains out of MMAGold in El Dorado Hills, CA, was
forced to withdraw from the bout due to complications during his weight cut.
According to Dave Hirschbein, founder and President of
MMAGold, Christensen suffered difficulties during his weight cut the night
before the weigh ins. “He went into his traditional protocols for his weight
cut, but something went wrong at about 2:30am in the morning.” He went on to
say that Christensen was taken to the hospital where he was subjected to
intravenous therapy. Hirschbein talked with Christensen the next morning, and
it was determined that the fight could not go on.
It’s an unfortunate turn of events for not only
Christensen, but also his opponent. As Hirschbein commented about Christensen’s
competitor, “they’re good people, and his opponent’s a worthy guy. I wish
there’s something we could do for the opponent but there’s nothing we can do.”
There was no information available as to whether the fight would be rescheduled
at a later date.
West Coast Fighting Championship will move forward
despite the setback, providing the fans with an exciting 11 card bout at the
McClellan Conference Center, highlighted by a Lightweight Title fight between Challenger
Josh Emmett and Champion Brandon Ricetti.
